Three local organisations are joining forces this month to help struggling Warrnambool and District families have an enjoyable festive season.
Bryan and Petersen Quality Builders, Nestles Cricket Club and Rudy’s Fitness are working together to collect Christmas food donations for Warrnambool and District Food Share, a not-for-profit community organisation providing food relief to the South West.
Warrnambool and District Food Share distributed over 2700 hampers in 2014, while this year, the group are distributing on average 270 hampers a month or 13 a day.
WDFS executive officer Dedy Friebe says he is delighted to receive such as a massive boost of community spirit at this time of the year.
“For people in dire straits financially or in hardship, Christmas can be a very unhappy time. Our emergency food relief to needy families will make Christmas a time of joy and celebration”, Dedy said.
Bryan and Pedersen Quality Homes Warrnambool Manager Andrew Austen say without a community we simply don’t have a business, so giving back to a community that supports us is the very least we could do.
“Together with the Nestles Cricket Club and Rudy’s Boxing we are hoping we can make this Christmas a happier one for those in desperate need”, Andrew added.
Nestles Cricket Club President Gary MacLean says he was amazed after meeting with Warrnambool and District Food Share on how much food was needed coming into the Christmas break.
“Our goal is to have a massive 3 week push, so our members can donate as many non-perishable items as possible, so that all families in the community have food on their tables for Christmas.
Rudy’s Fitness owner Rodney Ryan says he hopes the local community gets behind this food drive for a terrific local organisation.
The three organisations will be collecting non-perishable food donations until the 18th of December, which will give Food Share time to distribute the donations for Christmas.
Collection Bins are situated at Bryan and Pedersen Quality Builders Office located at 3/1051 Raglan Parade, Rudy’s Fitness in Kelp Street, while the Nestles Cricket Club will have a bin located at the Reid Oval during the next three Thursday nights of training.
